Edieβs friend Stella has accepted a job with Picture Weekly and moves into The Blue Lion as she prepares for her biggest job yet, taking photos during the coronation.
James Geddes is a talented artist and has been hired to paint a depiction of the coronation procession, and moves into The Blue Lion, which has the perfect view for his painting.
As all these characters (and more) converge on the hotel, something more sinister is afloat, and someone is out to ruin this momentous day.
Once again, I absolutely love how Robson can mix fiction with history. Her words flow seamlessly on the page and you become completely enthralled with this story. She so easily transports you back in time.
I loved the setting of The Blue Lion Hotel, and the hotel itself is its own character. I could easily picture this beautiful building with all its charm and history.
And I absolutely loved the Easter eggs to some of Robsonβs other novels.
If you love historical fiction, mixed with a little suspense and mystery, and just an overall beautifully written book, then you need to grab this book when it comes out on April 4th.

I enjoyed this book, but the plot climax was a bit extreme. Honestly, it felt like a contrived way to resolve the mystery, have Jamie overcome his fears and save the woman he loves, and oh look, here's Stella with an umbrella to save the day too!
However, the characters were very amiable, and the last chapter a nice conclusion.

I really liked the characters in this book. They were well drawn and I liked how the author fleshed out their histories as we got to know them. I liked their diversity and appreciated the look into the post-war years⦠after the initial shock of things had worn off. It was the plot that fell flat for me. It seemed somewhat contrived and forced, as did the romance element. The characters carried the book but it could have been much more.
