A timely read for me, just before the Coronation of King Charles III. Each chapter tells the story of the run up to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II from the point of view of a different character, all with differing back stories and experience coming out of WWII.
An unusual group of people are long term residents at the Blue Lion Hotel in London which is facing financial ruin, but ends up on the route for the Coronation parade, which could prove its salvation. Some of the characters read like Fawlty Towers caricatures but the main ones for the narrative were lovable and interesting, Jennifer Robson always researches so well.
I'll admit this story didn't take the route I thought it would, but even having said that there were no surprises in the ultimate storyline, but hey, that's OK sometimes.
A nicely written, fairly lighthearted but also informative story of post-war Britain that ensures I will keep reading this author
