* Basically Harry Potter but written by an American and arguably better? Though part of the point was to celebrate fanfiction and subvert a couple Chosen One tropes in the process
* But to me, it was kind of boring. It took too long for information or twists to come to light. And there was a lot of teenage drama that didn't jive with the main themes? Unless I didn't read enough to see how it all came together.
* In the end, I was excited to read Wayward Son (and hey I still might) but it was too much to finish this one
* Agatha was my favorite character. She seemed the most self-aware about her predicament/relationship with the main character, Simon Snow, who didn't really endear himself to me
* DNF'd ~75%
* Read September 2020
Moderate: Violence

I don't believe the art and the artist can be separated much in this case--not when she has refused to listen to those she's harmed, or acknowledged said harm at all. I don't think Rowell or her work should be supported, at least for now. I won't be buying any of her future books unless she fully reckons with the harm her racism has caused.
