Like what Harry Potter should have been. I find the magic mechanics were much more interesting and entertaining and the ending was satisfactory whilst still leaving room for possible development ( we love shelling out for a mandatory 3-part YA fantasy series because singular novels are a rarity nowadays. Get that coin I guess.). I'll be honest, I'm getting tired of MLM relationships being written by women but...ugh this one was one of the entertaining ones. Fell for the (specifically gay) enemies to lovers trope hook line and sinker because I am a queer little fool.

All in all, very good very fun, very fast read. Bravo.

Rowell’s style still rings true with some great ‘real’ characters, and a fantastic YA Contemporary take on a fantasy world. Despite reading mixed reviews, I happily surprised to find that it was much more different to Harry Potter than I had expected it to be. The magical world has been reinvented again with funny little catchphrase spells and an injection of pop culture references. I also thought (once again typical to Rowell) that all the relationships were handled very well, especially Simon’s friendship with his best friend Penny, and the love-hate with Baz.

When I started listening to this book I knew absolutely nothing about it. I downloaded a new audio book app and it was the first thing I was recommended. So far I've only read one of Rainbow Rowell's books, Eleanor and Park. Seeing as how I haven't read Fangirl yet I was very disappointed in this book at first. All I kept thinking was that this is the most ridiculously obvious Harry Potter rip off and I almost decided to stop listening to it. Then as it got further in I started to get very invested in the story. So I decided to check other people's reviews out of curiosity and that's when I realized where the Simon Snow story originated. Fangirl has been on my TBR pile since it was released and now I really want to read it.

I love the book, but the audiobook should have had more than 1 narrator.
