I flew through this book, really needing to know how it ended. Ruth started to annoy me a bit in the middle of the book, and I guessed every single twist. However, the dad getting what was coming to him (as well as the other baddies) made up for the fact that I called the twist. The ending was really stupid. Nothing irritates me more than endings left open. She could have easily made an epilogue, saying whether they made it over the bridge or died.
I'm choosing to believe they made it, and got to live the life they always wanted. But I'm a sucker for a HEA.
Absolutely loved Everett as a character!

I’m actually shocked this book doesn’t have a higher rating 🤔

Anyways here are my two cents for those who care 😅

Midnight Is the Darkest Hour by Ashley Winstead is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that will captivate readers who crave a dark, suspenseful tale of mystery, obsession, and self-discovery, particularly those who enjoy stories about strong female protagonists, complex relationships, and the struggle for power and identity in the face of oppressive societal expectations.

Also, at its heart I think this a deep love story of two misfits who found each other in the worst possible circumstances. Two people who are a product of the society they live in and have become a million shades of grey.

I loved the exploration of generational trauma and the walls that ‘elders’ build in the minds of children that outlast childhood. How difficult it is to break them but just as necessary in order to live.

I hated everyone in this town and I’m glad it’s a fictional one.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Ashley Winstead might just not be for me. What did I read and why did it need that many Twilight references?
