3.5 - the phaaaaantom of the opera is thereee (inside my. bookshelf. whatever). this was an interesting read, with a melodramatic plot and voice expected of late 19th- early 20th fiction (and french ofc), and i enjoyed the characters and the comedic relief of the larger cast. read surprisingly easy which i appreciated but ! just wanted more atmosphere!!!! more lyricism, less just plot and recounttttt. and we went back and forth over the same moments from different accounts quite a bit (side effect of serialisation maybe?) or got send down these completely extraneous anecdotes that justified the logic of the phantom, but the best part is the ambiguity and mystery?? a good story! one better told on stage.
