Her story starts at childhood and talks about all the craziness up to her performance in New York as Roxie in Cabaret. And I feel like it’s really an insight into a woman people never really got to know.
She describes her life events as both a diary and as poetry blending the two styles. It’s well written and full of background on the events I saw on TV or in magazines.
I really enjoyed this.

This memoir is incredibly empathetic, clever, and thoughtful. For someone who was so incredibly abused, so frequently, by so many people, she still holds so much joy and appreciation for life, which really shines through. Her prose is really authentic, like you’re having a conversation with her. I also loved her poetry. I’m really glad I picked this up, started and finished it in a day.
