The first third or so is really fun, but once they get going on the river it's super tedious. I skipped a bunch of chunks that just talk about boating or the river.

I enjoyed this but it is a strange mix of comic lighthearted stories, and something of a guide to the Thames between London and Oxford, and on a few occasions the author randomly goes off into some deep passages which feel at odds with the feeling of the rest of the book.
Overall a pleasant read for Summer and I especially enjoyed reading this by a lock on the weekend.

Anyone who likes to read the humor genre should enjoy this. Although I read it in the United States, more than a century later, it was written to ring true. Jerome is not just describing a trip, he delves into nearly all the comedic aspects of human nature. From children trying desperately to be sick to miss school to the dad who fancies himself a true landlord and craftsman. I found myself returning to parts of the book and reading them aloud to people. We all ended up giggling about how well Jerome describes the comedic aspects of human nature.

Bruvs take a vacation in the 1800s.

Three Men in a Boat is a classic I am only just getting to now. It's that particular sort of British humour -bumbling, self-deprecating and obvious, mixed with a travelogue, nostalgic for the history of the countryside along the Thames. Quaintly amusing, historically interesting (given that it was written in the 1880s and was looking back) and with a marvellous dog called Montmorency, this is a quick, fun read.
