I received this book through a giveaway on Goodreads. I wasn't crazy about it. Anytime someone asked what my book was about, I told them that it made me think of a "gritty Andy Griffith" type story. I'm going to echo several other reviews that I've seen and say that it is definitely a book that your grandfather would enjoy. There were several instances where the narrator would say something like "back in those days" and it would instantly take me out of the story and setting. There were also so many instances of rape that it became a little ridiculous. Just something to further the male storylines. I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters and just didn't care what happened to any of them. The story was long and drawn out and could have been shaved down in several places. I was just not the target audience for this one but that's ok. :)
