Read for a book club
Not my cup of tea. Never really liked mysterys and this book kinda cemented that. Very 'wine mom' literature. Very boring. I probably would've DNF'd it if it wasnt one of our book club picks. Maybe like the last 50 pages were interesting but I can't call a book good when only the last 50 pages were somewhat interesting. Not a fan. I'm giving half a point because I used to live in Minnesota and all the descriptions of the river and the small town vibe made me nostalgic.

The first half of this book felt so slow and dry but the second half was fantastic. The characters are so deeply developed and so complex in a story that is haunting and sad but also uplifting.

This is not the kind of book I usually read. It was another book club pick. There were too many characters and so much talk about the wars (it took place in 1958), and the history of the river, it just got repetitive. Plus, the man that was killed was disliked by everyone, so I didn’t really care who did it. They most likely had a good reason. If this hasn’t been for book club I wouldn’t have finished it.

A murder mystery that takes place in a small town in rural Minnesota in 1958. Well written, many topics, I don't quite believe the story though!
I didn't write a review at first as I dnf, however after reading some of the 1 star reviews I feel completely vindicated and relieved that I didn't struggle through the pain of finishing it.
