crazy, convoluted, and very cool

" 'The only thing that can save a mortally wounded cat,' said the cat, 'is a swig of kerosene....' "

interesting commentary on the necessity of evil to determine good, the vice of materialism, and soviet tyranny

Lots of interesting ideas and madcap whimsy, but not always as compelling as it could be.

Because I have ADHD ✨ (I will absolutely come back to this, perhaps when Bulgakov re-enters my fixation cycle)

This was a delightful concept with an interesting backdrop in communist Russia. Though much of the plot was dark, the story is told with such whimsy and absurdity that that it’s somehow a lighthearted read. Though the concept was great and the book has some funny moments,  I had trouble feeling connected to the characters.  It was a slower stop-and-go read for me, but once I got through the beginning it flowed. Everything that takes place in Moscow is really entertaining - I appreciate the magical realism elements. The parts about Pilate did take me out of the story a little bit.
