I was so excited to read this book and it was more ethereal than I was hoping. There is about a 6-7 page stretch where Kandinsky really lays out his color theory (which is why I read the book) and the rest is really high level philosophizing that oscillates between tidbits of brilliance and purple prose of pure nothing.

Kandinsky was definitely smarter than I am, but I still enjoyed parts of this book. He speaks of Matisse & Picasso early on; Matisse is color and Picasso form. He also speaks of chromotherapy &, what sounds to me like, synesthesia. The sound and taste of colors factors heavily into his determination of the emotive quality of different colors. It definitely gave me some insight into his work which is what I was looking for from this short, if pretty dense, read.

Some incredibly interesting sections in this. My copy is now very well annotated but ultimately there is a lot of it that is difficult to comprehend and could be perceived as a bit dull.

TL;DR. I tried to read this twice. My first attempt was back in 2014 when preparing for my BFA thesis show which had a lot to do with the subject matter in this book. My second attempt was over the past couple of weeks. I just couldn't make it through this book.
