I don't traditionally read volumes of poetry at a time, especially modern poetry, but as this was given to me by a friend with an enthusiastic recommendation, I thought I'd give it a try. This proved to be a brilliant idea. Kirby has a very distinct format that I found intriguing. As for his style, I was impressed by that as well. Some read like prose poems, while others used punctuation but rambled on in winding, descriptive lines. I was awed by how the author was so deeply impacted by the most commonplace experiences, and in turn, how he could write so vividly about those occurrences. Perhaps my favorite was called Ode to My Hands. I plan on looking for more of Kirby's work and would recommend this particular earthy volume to any poetry lover.
