Ok, here's this thing. I really liked this book BUT I did not like the ending. It ended in a cliffhanger and literally did not close one story loop. NOT ONE.

To say I flew through this is an understatement. Once you start this book, it’s like a compulsion. An itch you need to scratch. A book you have to read. And then you need to read the sequel immediately! (I haven’t yet but I will definitely be doing so in the future)! I chose this book for a book club I read with students and they read it throughout the month. I started reading later but they kept coming up to me in the hall saying oh my god this book! They kept saying are we going to read the sequel and I said yes eventually! They will be mad at me cause it’s not next months but they will really love me the following month!
Here’s what’s so great about this book! Readable? Yes! Likable characters? Yes! Murder? Yes! Mystery? Oodles and oodles! The best thing is that you are sucked in immediately. It reads like a true crime podcast come to life. There are so many clues that I feel like I must have missed. There are so many questions still to be answered. But I’m here for it! Normally I am all, “get to the answer I need to know”! But in this book, it’s a slow burn. You get a little past and a little current day action. You get to know the characters (suspects?). You get to know the location, the grand Ellingham Academy. It’s wonderful. Truly, deviously wonderful! (See what I did there?) A big old yes from me!

I have mixed feelings about this book. on the one hand, it was way too slow getting to the main event for me - it didn’t happen till just over halfway into the book. on the other hand, after that I could not put the book down. it also didn’t really tie up the book either. I don’t mind it ending on a cliffhanger, but I’d prefer it if it had finished the book off a bit more before introducing it. having said that, overall I did enjoy it and will probably read the next one

I did not finish this book. It was really boring and I was at 30% when I stopped. I wish it would’ve started at the orientation scene after the prologue and introduced some of the background information from there.

I enjoyed it. At times it was a little hard to follow. I will have to give book 2 a try.
