I was wondering when (if at all honestly) there would be a reunion between Rincewind and Twoflower! And damn, it was kinda cute.
I know I tend to go on about different story lines in these books but I genuinely was loving all of them, though I was particularly invested in the old barbarians - they did not let me down. Once again, loved the wizards in this.
I mean honestly I don't have a whole lot to say, lol I cannot remember a whole bunch but I just know I had a good time and sometimes that's all you need.

this series has been pretty good but i really did not like the rape jokes in this book and they def got a little racist in this one with the eating dogs and whatnot.
i do get that it is critiquing ancient china but i feel that there could have been more care taken. I do like how they brought up real and not just slapdash examples such as the lotus feet tradition but i feel like we could have had more of that. it also felt a bit white savior-y. and i didnt love how most of the race was represented as meek. You can make up anything about a fictional race of people, but when you are purposely representing a simile of a real group of people you get the risk of perpetuating stereotypes and i think this is a risk of that. dont get me wrong, there def was research done and I do think there was good intent, just not enough thought put in.
I havent encountered all that much of this during my readthrough so far of this series and i was actually pretty impressed considering the first book was 42 years ago so im willing to give more benefit of the doubt. also its relevant to note that this might be a really good critique of something specific that i do not have the context to apply to and I’m taking satire in the wrong way. same could apply to the rape jokes made about cohen’s barbarian friend but i just don’t buy that and it really turned me off the whole storyline. Im glad they didnt really come back to that joke a lot b/c i prob would have dnfed. just some icky feelings leaving from this book
