3 Truths and a Lie by Lisa Gardner
(Detective D.D. Warren #7.5)

With this short story we get a couple of hours in the life of D.D. Warren as she psyches herself up for a difficult challenge that she feels is way above her ability to perform. She is about to stand in front of authors of thrillers and give a 50 minute class on what it's actually like to be a homicide detective. The story does some thrill writer name dropping (someone by the name of Slaughter, for instance) and D.D. draws the crowd in by making the case she talks about being a competition to see who can find out the lie in this 3 truths and a lie homicide. A seedy motel, a hooker, and a sawed off leg is involved in this puzzler. I enjoy these short stories between the novels as they usually give an opportunity for some humor amongst the mayhem.

Listened to this without knowing it was book 7.5 in a series. Now I need to read all the D.D. Warren books. Good stuff!

A fantastic little short story starring D.D. Warren. I love the context of her delivering a talk at a conference for murder mystery writers. It was neat to see a few authors mentioned by name, like Karin Slaughter. The story was a good conundrum and I enjoyed trying to piece the puzzle together, much like D.D.'s audience. A quick, fun read!

I came across this story as a free audio-book download. I had never heard if this author or series before, but I love a good mystery.

This story was written from the point of view of a detective at a conference of mystery writers, and she is relaying all the details of one of her most gruesome cases. Some parts of the story were indeed graphic, but the case was intriguing and I found myself wanting to hear all the details and figure out who had done it before the end of the book.

3 TRUTHS AND A LIE
(D.D. Warren: #7.5)
Written by Lisa Gardener
2015; Dutton/Penguin (52 Pages)
Genre: series, fiction, mystery, suspense

RATING: 5 STARS

Released earlier this week was another installment in D.D. Warren’s series. This wonderful novella does not carry from the previous novel, nor does it set up the next book. D.D. Warren is reluctantly teaching thriller writers about police procedure. Knowing that this roomful of authors are bloodthirsty she tells them about her most gruesome crime scene.
She asks them to uncover the lie in her story of a finding a dead men with a missing leg in a hotel room. The leg is found in the bathroom on dry ice…intrigued? So was I!

This is not a typical D.D. Warren -- I would say it is optional

Audio Rating: 5.00 (not part of the overall rating)

Novella Tweet-Length Thoughts: Three Truths and a Lie was a fun, quick listen that made me want to go to Writer's Police Academy. Great way to get to know DD Warren!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Kirsten Potter / Length: 1 hr and 40 mins

Kirsten did a great job with the narration. This was basically all DD and she nailed what I thought she would sound like. I am going to have to get the ones that I am missing on audiobook (this is a series that I have skipped around on).
