A Sheep Among Wolves 1/5

I didn’t care for this story at all. In fact, it felt like I was reading a badly written YA novella. I simply disliked all the characters, and it all felt too forced.

Fine Print 5/5

This was my favorite out of all three. It is an excellent story about making deals with the wrong people. I loved how dark and gruesome this story was. Cassandra Shaw did an amazing job bringing the World of Darkness into this collection.

The Land of Milk and Honey ⅘

Caitlin Starling’s entry in this book is also very solid. It’s a very unique story, and I enjoyed the double meanings surrounding the ethical issues in it.

A big thanks to Harper Voyager and Netgalley for the advanced copy

The first story was my favourite, the last story was genuinely interesting and posed a lot of ethical thought, but overall it was all kind of meh. It kept me entertained.

Like everyone else thinks

the first story sucks to the point where I couldn't get past the first page, while the other two were utterly fantastic.

Please consider, idk, NOT including the first story? Gives V:tM a bad name.

A sheep among wolves - 2/5 (this was a really weak story compared, and the worse one to start the book off with IMHO)

A Sheep Among Wolves - 2/5
The worst out of the 3. Mental health clichès that are so painful to read. Not because it's hurtful but because it's all the worst parts wrapped into one big stereotypical package. And the lack of backbone in Clea is ridiculous. The end is just ok.

Fine Print - 3.5/5
The best out of the lot but still flawed. It felt like too much focus was given to unimportant stuff and that it was missing vital parts that would of filled out this and made it an amazing story.

The Land Of Milk And Honey - 3/5
I somewhat liked the idea of this but struggled in a few places to get behind it. It drags in quite a few places.

Overall, I was expecting a lot more from this than what it turns out to be. While it did keep me interested enough to finish, I just didn't find any of it all that great. It's vampires, surely better could of been done here

I requested this book because I loved The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec. I was completely unaware of the universe of Masquerade until my husband saw me reading it. Luckily, after a quick Google session, I felt prepared. I liked Gornichec's story, and I liked Cassandra Khaw's story even more, and I LOVED Caitlin Starling's story. They were all solid, and I will definitely seek out each author's other work.

Thank you to Harper Voyager and Netgalley for the review copy!

This short story collection just wasn’t it, team. The first story was dreadful and that was a tone I had a hard time getting out of for the next two pieces, even though they did get a little bit better. But not enough for me to feel like reading this was worth it. Such a bummer.
