At times, it reads more like a Charlie Kaufman love story than a Douglas Adams romp across the galaxy, but that's OK. Charlie Kaufman love stories are delightful.

The story in this installment didn't seem to get very far, but the whole mess (and I use that term most affectionately) is so twisted up on itself that I continue to read as I desperately want to find out what happens next.

For a moment he felt good about this. A moment or two later he felt bad about feeling good about it. Then he felt good about feeling bad about feeling good about it and, satisfied, drove on into the night.

Simultaneously the most grounded and most absurd entry in the series (let’s see if five can top it) this is a mind-melting fever dream of a book. I loved every page. Adams was a genius.

The reason I didn't enjoy previous Hitchhiker's books was the poor writing and painful dialogue, which started to shift in "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", but only really got better in "Life, the Universe, and Everything". This book finally made me actually laugh out loud *and* read someone a passage.
