As the Newsweek review of this work reads, in part, "Maus compels us to bear witness in a different way: the very artificiality of its surface makes it possible to imagine the reality beneath."

So much of Art and his father’s relationship reminds me of mine with my mom. Maybe it’s the intergenerational trauma.

I’m giving this book 5 stars and rushing to start on the second book. I can’t pinpoint anything about this novel that I would change. The art is stunning and harrowing at times. The story telling is unique and wonderful. We have all heard and read plenty of stories and accounts - fiction and non fiction - about this period of time in history but this one really stands out. It’s accessible and heartwarming in some places and heartbreaking in others.
