This was the sort of overlong, clichéd, and annoying piles of horse shit I would never have finished in a million years. But, about three chapters in, I realized, hey this reminds me of a dumb story I played on that game, Episode.

That's because this is the dumb story I played on Episode and, for whatever reason, that fact captivated the hell out of me.

It was absolutely not worth my time, though, no fucking way. I was halfway tempted to see the trash fire that could be the next book, but it isn't on Audible Romance like this was so...not today, probably never.

I picked this book for my “book I never finished” category because I couldn’t for the life of me remember how it ended. I read it on wattpad back in 2014, and I remember really loving it, but not much else. I’m now realising that maybe there was no real ending to actually remember because WHAT THE HELL?

‘The Bad Boy’s Girl’ ends in the middle of the story—literally. The POV shifts, violently and unexpectedly, in the middle of a tense scene between the two protagonists that has the reader thinking, “This is it for them. They can’t come back from this.” And that very well might be the case, as the POV switch picks up at the start of the story, but ends in the middle, just as the main characters first get together. I think this would be SO COOL if it was intentional—the sudden and abrupt memory of when everything was hopeful, and how jarringly that contrasts with everything going to hell in the present—but I don’t think a bittersweet ending hinging on a breakup was the way the author wanted this book to go.

Actually, my favourite parts of this book were the things the author did unintentionally. I loved that Tessa’s eating disorder wasn’t talked about at first, because the story’s written in her POV for the most part, and she doesn’t think she has a problem. It’s only when Cole points out how little she eats that the audience is even aware that there’s an issue with food, even after they know how much weight she’s lost. But I don’t think this was done purposefully, because Tessa’s struggles with ED are kind of dropped after that point.

This book had a lot of potential, but yeah. It fell pretty short in terms of execution. It’s a first draft, a skeleton of something that could be awesome with some fleshing out. I hope Holden continues to write romance stories, because she has such a flair for dialogue and storytelling, but this just seemed like a concept outline more than a story.
