4.25/5 A Game of Thrones is one of the most well written books I’ve ever read. My reason for not giving this book 5 stars is because I just didn’t feel that extra spark that I get from a 5 star book.

Multiple pov’s can be difficult to write, but GRRM executed it almost perfectly. My one complaint is that some of the chapters could be a bit boring and slow, like Bran’s chapters after he’s crippled.

GRRM is renowned for not giving his characters plot armour. My first true experience of this was Eddard’s death, which I did not expect in the least even though it was staring me right in the face.

Overall, A Game of Thrones is an obscenely well written book that almost made it to my favourites list.

Took about 5 months to get through all 807 pages but it was worth it. What a well-crafted story, will probably read the next one soon
