I really enjoyed this on so many levels — the audiobook was well-narrated and engaging, the writing was informed by in depth, meticulous research, and it was all underpinned by a distinct sense of heart.

This book discusses seven teen shows that revolutionized television for their target audiences and how they impacted television shows that would come in the future. The shows discussed are The Fresh Prince, My So Called Life, The OC, Freaks and Geeks, Glee, Dawson's Creek, and Friday Night Lights. Out of those shows, I only ever watched Fresh Prince and Freaks and Geeks. I enjoyed learning some behind the scenes information about the shows and how they were created. This was a pretty neat book. The Audible version is just about 7 hours, so I listened to it in one shift at work.

For not shying away from some of the more troubling aspect that some of the actors dealing since the shows premieres it was a good, but I think it could've gone deeper in places and maybe talked about one or two more shows, it's well researched and very emotionally centered, which is more than I can say for some non fiction books

A cool behind the scenes look at several teen shows that defined the genre. I appreciate the through-lines the author used to connect the chosen shows. I wish each chapter had been an even deeper dive into the background of each show, but that would have made for a very long book!

Like many books in this genre/vibe, it spends a little too much time recapping culture and not enough time analyzing culture. Also at least -0.5 stars because of the errors recollecting Glee plots (sorry but I am the pre-eminent Glee scholar after all)

This sent me off on a Friday Night Lights binge. Cute, nostalgic and some interesting insight to the filing of some of my favorite shows.
