I didn't feel like I learned as much about the impact the shows had on culture as I was hoping but it was fun to understand how they impacted one another. A fun read about a bunch of shows I loved one I now need to watch (My So Called Life). It does feel a bit like Buffy should be in here, seems a bit of a miss not to include it especially to not include something supernatural which became such a staple of teen tv in the 2000s & 2010s.
What fun. Guess I have several hundred hours of TV to rewatch now
What a fun book! I listened to the author read this (and not get distracted by the others who read in for the many people she interviewed or obtained statements from) and thoroughly enjoyed both the trip down memory lane and learning more about shows that I did and did not watch. I had only seen four of the seven shows listed (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, My So-Called Life, Dawson’s Creek, Freaks & Geeks, The O.C., Friday Night Lights, & Glee), and hadn’t even finished watching all of them, but they were all the generation in which I grew up, and I was at least familiar with the storylines of most, so reading about them really resonated with me. And also inspired me to go back and watch them, either again or for the first time!
Pop culture + behind the scenes stories, right up my alley.
It’s more of a 3.5, but I rounded it up because I devoured this book in two days. I enjoyed reading it and learned about a few behind the scenes snippets that I didn’t know before, but I found it a bit superficial.
