While this is a romance novel, I loved that it discusses so much more. The characters are well written and the growth we see in Minnie and Quinn is so good! It dives into mental health and anxiety, difficulties of friendship, and family dynamics. Minnie at times was frustrating, blaming bad things that happened to her on bad luck instead of taking responsibility for her own life and actions. Once she recognized the chip on her shoulder, she grew to a better person. I also liked that is jumped from present day to previous New Year’s Eves and we see a little bit how destiny works in the background of our lives.

“Life is change -- if nothing's changing, you aren't living.”
“I don't think the scale of other people's problems make your own any easier to live with.”
I was quite surprised with this book. I definitely went in thinking it was going to be your normal run-of-the-mill, fluffy romance, and it was that, to some extent. However, it spent a lot more time on the character development of Minnie and Quinn than their actual romance and I was kind of here for it. I loved that therapy was included in one of their stories! We definitely need to do more normalizing of therapy. One of the things I hate in romance novels is when the other person "fixes" all of the problems of their partner. It was so nice to see a novel that tipped that trope so throughly on its head. I also really like how the timelines jumped around. I loved so many elements of this but somehow they didn't all always work together. I think this might just be because this was the author's debut novel. There are so many fantastic pieces that I love in books that I would be super interested in reading other books from this author in the future.

they start off in relationships before getting together but there is no cheating and they actually don't demonize the ex partners.
