Very enjoyable installment in a very enjoyable series. The magical world of Peter Grant, Inspector Nightingale and the "Folly" is expanding all the time with new characters and situations and the welcome return of old ones. This book focused on the world under London with the Tube and the sewers playing a major part. One of the things I particularly enjoy about this series, apart from the characters, are the feeling of London's history that comes through in the situations Peter faces. Great fun and I'm looking forward to more.

Least good so far of these books; the incredibly long sequence in the underworld with Kumar just went on and on, and bogged down the whole thing for me. Also probably the least compelling or even interesting mystery, and the least movement on any characters. It was still enjoyable, but it feels like filler, as if a book were needed so this one was written to meet a deadline.

Going to start book 4 today! Love this series!

Three might be a little harsh. These books are decent and they keep me wanting to read them despite my issues with them. They are definitely pure escapism though from some of the more challenging stuff that I also want to read.

My main real issue here is the blithe approach he takes to police abuses of power and abrogation of rights. I know it's from the POV of a cop, but it's still a little too casual to sit right with me (albeit accurate I imagine).
