Pretty great memoir. I wish he would have gone into the depth that he did on The Outsiders on some of his other biggest projects. I was also expecting more on the fallout from the DNC scandal.

I listened to Rob Lowe read his novel as an audiobook, which added tremendously to the overall experience. For anyone who loves the Outsiders and the West Wing, clearly his passion projects, a must read. The book description does not disappoint, and Lowe’s voices add color and humor to the narrative.

I was tempted to rate this one five stars, but let's call it 4 1/2. Easily one of the most interesting celebrity biographies I've ever read. Bruce Campbell's is the best, but this one surprised me. Rob Lowe seems like a really intelligent guy, and he doesn't pull any punches about his mistakes as a young guy in Hollywood. Stories I Only Tell My Friends is really well-written and has a perfect method of name dropping. Basically Lowe tells the story and gives you a little time to try to guess who he's talking about and then he reveals the name at the very end. As good an actor as he is, Lowe is just as adept a storyteller. And he has been EVERYWHERE! I was truly shocked at some of the connections he reveals in this book. No Spoilers, just teases: The 9/11 part was probably the most insane jaw-dropping moment, but the mysterious guide/agent guy was pretty shocking too. His rock-bottom moments are shared too. The more I think about it, the more I think it just may be a 5 Star memoir. Excellent read regardless.

Goodreads is driving me crazy. At least twice I've posted reviews that just never showed up. Sorry, Rob Lowe. I wrote a longer review for your book but Goodreads ate it.

Cheap, short summary of my summary: One of the most interesting memoirs I have ever read. Love the method of waiting until the end of each story to name drop. Lowe is well-spoken (and written) and has had some insane experiences (9/11!). He also doesn't pull any punches about his party lifestyle and subsequent hitting rock bottom. I strongly recommend this book. 4 1/2 stars easy.

I can’t decide between 3 and 4 stars.

Entertaining, but mostly a bunch of name dropping. I listened to the audiobook, and enjoyed his cadence.

I feel truly fortunate for being allowed to hear the stories of Rob Lowe. I went into listening to his biography with some trepidation. I didn't know much of his past, hadn't watched much of him in The West Wing. In fact I know him best from his times on Parks and Recreation. "Ann Perkins!"

Regardless Rob chronicles his life in such a way that you feel your sitting in a room just having a conversation. It doesn't hurt that Rob has some incredible stories to tell from his times with the young Sheen's to his time visiting the President in the oval office.

I immensely enjoyed my time listening Stories I Only Tell My Friends and think anyone with any interest in Rob or the trials and tribulations of actors will enjoy this as well.

3.5 stars. *** audible ( he narrates )
Not bad. Not bad at all. Good stories which are well written with just enough insight and gossip without embarrassing anyone . Although I would have liked a bit more gossip it was an easy fun listen. Gotta like Rob Lowe, smart , funny , charming and apparently a bit of a ladies man. Favorite part was the Michael J Fox chapter

I don't usually go for pop culture (that would be considered a huge understatement in my household), so this was an unusual choice for me. A family friend gave us a stack of magazines to take on vacation. One of those was a copy of Vanity Fair that had an excerpt from this book centered around Rob Lowe's experience with Outsiders. It was enough to make me want to read the book.

There was a fair amount of name-dropping but, if you can overlook that, his life has been interesting. Especially remarkable to me were the way some of his early chance encounters made an impact.
funny lighthearted reflective medium-paced

Great book that will really bring you back in time if you are a teenager and young adult of the 80's!
