I have very mixed feelings about this book. Although I really liked Gareth's backstory and personality, and pretty much felt the same way about Hyacinth, I just didn't have a lot of fun with them together. Their interactions are a tad forced, and although I can have fun with the idea of them being in a battle of wits, it just wasn't executed properly and overall left a bad taste in my mouth. Their relationship just felt very cringe worthy at moments, especially the repetitive " More Gareth" lines.
I enjoyed the familial history and scavenger hunt with Isabella as well as the Lady Danbury scenes. It was also very satisfying to learn of Gareth's true lineage and how he dealt with the baron at the end of the book. As for Hyacinth, I just didn't think that she grew much throughout the book and it would've been great to have seen that.
Overall this was pretty meh, but a bit above the other stories in the series.
