Reeling after that ending, I can't believe I have to wait for book 3!
I found this book living rent free in my head, I just kept wanting to pick it up and find out what was going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat so much.
Medra annoyed me a little in this one, especially at the start when she was reacting unfiltered without thinking and getting herself into trouble, but overall I really like her. Blake...omg...the character development - had me kicking my feet and giggling. I am really enjoying all the side characters as well, and intrigued to see how it all plays out.

Both the dragons and spice levels have gone way up in this one - even if I wasn't able to fully enjoy them at times.
I love a toxic man as much as the next reader, but Blake really pushed my buttons in this one, almost unlikeable. The possessiveness, arrogance, and overall unrepentant entitled behavior for the first half of the book - made even more infuriating and inexcusable in every POV chapter we have to read - really turned me off him to the point that I wished she'd just leave him for the other option, Kage. Even if only for a bit. Teach him a lesson. But, of course, she'd never do that and I have to hope eventually he redeems himself, I guess. It really had me wishing for the ACOMAF twist where she ditches the terrible first man for a better option.
In my dreams. Justice for my man Kage.
On the flip side, I really enjoyed the dragon and political side of the plot. Nyx is a very satisfying dragon character, and I found the slow uncovering of the true history of the dragons to be interesting and compelling. Most of the 4-star rating comes from enjoying the dragons.
Honestly, I could have done with more dragons and fewer interruptions from Blake.

Great book, but same critique as the first book. How can Blake be so rational when he is alone and thinks about how to handle his relationship with Medra, and then acts like a complete asshole and irrational. He then reflects on the interaction and comes to the conclusion he should try it a different way. Which he doesn't do. It is so fucking frustrating.
But other then that I enjoyed the book very much and can't wait for book 3!

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first. The writing was way better in this book. Iโm actually quite devastated that the third book isnโt coming out until 2026 because I have TONS of questions from that cliffhanger!
