Loved this book as a kid!!! Such a wonderful variation to the Cinderella story!! Worth reading! I can't wait until my cousins are old enough to read this book!!

This was really good. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this wasn't as much like Cinderella as I expected. That's a good thing because I didn't know what would happen next, which is always fun.

Gorgeous artwork, and a wonderful retelling of a South African tale.

Although when you name means "ashamed", I mean.... that'd be tough to get over and be a good person.

This adapted African folktale has gorgeous illustrations and a satisfying plot. It's great for readers who are looking for diverse variants of "Cinderella," but it stands on its own as a unique story that teaches subtle lessons within an interesting, well-researched cultural context.

I remember having thins book as a child and bought it for my own daughters a few years ago. I've read it many times, and love that something I cherished could be passed on to them, teaching a great lesson in being kind to others, including your own sister.

This book is an African tale that illustrates how important it is to treat all people with respect and kindness. Mufaro had two daughters. One was constantly in a bad mood while the other was very kind. One day a messenger from the king arrived announcing that he was searching for a woman to become the queen. Mufaro planned to take his daughters to the city, but the unkind daughter left to go to the city early. She was met on the way by some characters who she treated unkindly. The kind daughter left with her father and the wedding party the next day. On their journey she treated she met the same strangers as her sister, but she treated them all with kindness. Upon arriving at the palace, the king selects her.

This story is short and illustrates a good point. I enjoyed the book, and the illustrations were very colorful. Some of them were very life-like.

I think children would enjoy this story, and it would also be a good book to illustrate how we should treat each other. This would be a good book to use at the beginning of the year when discussing classroom rules or norms and when trying to establish a positive, safe classroom environment.
