The almost forgotten favourite from my childhood. Epic.

It's a Polish classic, but hard to get through due to the constant environment description. The story itself has surprised me, the way it developed.
Polski klasyk, ciężko się ją trochę czyta że względu na ciągłe opisy otoczenia. Sama historia mnie zaskoczyła.

I've read it in the elementary school and I absolutely loved it. Staś and Nel were such a lovable kids with such strong bond. But...
Then the entire book was ruined by the mention [in the ending] of them getting married in the future. It made me feel like their previous found family, sweet platonic relationship was somehow lesser than romantic one would be. The entire point of the story was that Staś protected and cared for Nel like for a little, beloved sister and then what? Suddenly it wasn't enough when they grew up? It was an unnecessary addition to the rest of the plot and I hated it, this ruined that story for me as a kid. It's still an amazing book overall but that ending just left a bitter aftertase in my mouth.

This is one awesome book for young children - like 9,10,11,12 years old! Even though, I enjoyed it a lot too!

Boring & racist

this is not an objective review, i just hate this book
adventurous medium-paced

i literally repressed the fact that in the epilogue (like ten years later) the boy marries the girl he treated like a sister thru the whole book (he's 6 years older) & was SHOCKED when someone reminded me the other day

anyway who the fuck let us write books set in africa & full of the white savior bulshit
