It was good enough and really bingeable and then the ending ruined it. That wasn’t an ambiguous ending it was just weird.

This was a quick, fun thriller. There was a lot of story packed into a fairly short book, at just under 300 pages.

It was twist upon twist, and I fully enjoyed it. Was able to finish all in one sitting and was enthralled by the story the entire time.

I loved how it all came together. I forgot how much I loved Modglin's writing and will have to finish up her backlog.

*Thanks netgalley and publisher for a gifted copy.

Meh. Interesting premise. Boring execution. Unlikeable characters. Not thrilling or exciting. Predicted the twist. Why do I keep doing this to myself?

I’ve been binge reading Ms. Modglin’s books, and I have really enjoyed most of them. In fact, this story was the only one so far that I didn’t like all that much. The plot was too far-fetched. The main character’s internal narrative seemed repetitive and kind of irritating to me. And overall, it just didn’t stand up to her other plots. But I still would recommend this author. Her books have been a lot of fun. Maybe just skip this one.

While well written, this isn’t one of my favorites from this author. Didn’t pull me in and took me a bit longer to get through than her books typically do.  While the story line was good and the ending was alright, the characters were lacking depth and I didn’t connect with any of them.

How do you move on when strangers slaughter a whole neighborhood and you are one that survived!?! Can you move on or are you constantly looking over your shoulder with fear!?!

I must admit I was a bit skeptical I would like this one. As they arrived at the town and the rumors and curse info started to flow in, my eyebrows were up and I was just not buying it. But as the story slowly continued, peeling away layer after layer, I was hooked. How could this all play out? Not at all the way I guessed and I enjoyed it.

I also experienced this as an audio book and the narrator was excellent. I highly recommend it!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This was not one of my favorites from Kiersten's books... I do have more that I love than dislike but unfortunately this one fell to the "ehhh" section. The "twist" is not one that had me stunned. It was just a normal read.

3.5 stars. A quick listen and entertaining enough. It is fast-paced and eventful, but comes up short in character depth. The ending was pretty predictable and some elements were a little far fetched (curses).

Thank you NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for my advanced audiobook. Expected pub date: 1/11/22
