I actually liked this Alex Cross novel more than some of Patterson' more recent entrees into the series because it called attention to the political situation in some of Africa and the blood diamond conflicts, which I had read about in Precious Objects and learned much more about when I heard Alicia Oltuski speak.
It was very "hit you over the head with a heavy object and cause blunt force trauma" in its treatment of said political conflicts. But I would have expected as much.
Skilled readers can also start to see the chapters where Patterson has passed off to a co-author and has been a little lazy on integrating stylistically (unless that's his editor's job now).
I should probably put down the beach reads now that summer is over.

My least favourite in the Alex Cross series so far. It just couldn't keep my attention.
In this book, Alex goes after a killer known as "The Tiger". He is killing entire families. A friend of Alex's is killed along with her family and Alex goes after the people responsible.
Hopefully I'll like the next in the series much more.

Frustrating book. Seemed to be trying to make a statement about Africa to the detriment of the logic of the plot and story line.

One of the best books of the Alex Cross series yet!! I seriously could not put this book down, I would've finished it sooner if I didn't have to work!

Surprisingly much better than the past few Cross books. Alex had to get out of the States to interest me again? Well whatever it was it worked...
More serious than some of the more recent Alex Cross books, overall a pretty good thriller.
There are way too many serendipitous incidents herein to make it anywhere near believeable! I've always liked Patterson's Alex Cross character, but this book places him in the middle of plain sloppy writing! Kudos to the author for taking on the topic of child soldiers, and the situation in the Sudan, Darfur, and Nigeria! Too bad it had to be within the confines of these pages! Also, overuse of exclamation points does not contribute to the reader's enjoyment of the story!
