an excruciating read. the only positive is the fact i’ll never have to read this book ever again.

In my opinion, this book defies rating.

I rushed through the first half. Stalled for weeks on the next quarter. Dashed through the final quarter.

Peculiar fucking book.

in this case, the film is much much better. my stomach could not stand the constant stream of consciousness with brand names, misogyny and casually mentioned brutal acts of violence - i know this is the point, but in my opinion the execution lacked the much needed nuance and breathing room that the film was able to successfully achieve.

I’m simultaneously discussed and fascinated by this book. I have watched the movie beforehand but the book really surpasses the movie.
I cannot wrap my head around the fact, that people are misinterpreting the character of Patrick Bateman and actually idolise him. I had to stop multiple times during the reading of this book, because I was so disgusted by him.
An amazing written book, which gave me a lot to think about.

Will finish later, have too many holds out and wasn't in the right mood to read this one right after The Secret History.

Seen the movie. felt like it wasn't necessary to read because the first few pages were almost similar to the movie
