"...so much depends on
the idea of breakfast in bed
versus the sloppy practice."

Just gorgeous.

thematically, verbally, on a personal level — this worked for me. it’s the sort of prose that isn’t too dense, isn’t too simple, isn’t too obscure nor sparse. just a nice read.

Truthfully, I finished reading this a week ago...the first time. Originally, I told myself I would go through the collection slowly and really savor each one. But, as inevitably happens with every box of chocolates I buy, I accidentally shoved each poem in my mouth in one sitting. Maybe I have remarkably weak resolve, but I like to think it is because this book is just that good.

I have since gone through more slowly and taken the time to digest and I keep finding myself coming back. I don’t think I’m ready to shelve this collection yet—it will probably be in my bag and on my mind for weeks to come.

Highly recommend.

this was nice, that last poem OMG! but hazelton’s images and her narrative and her overall voice of fallen glamour is truly amazing. i cannot wait to see what comes next from her.

The poems in this collection embrace many masks (to include the camera’s aperture) while exploring the filmic values of life, age, love, and parenting. So smart and lightly cutting that I wish I could hear them read. Hazelton is a writer to watch/read/follow!
