I really loved that these characters strove to COMMUNICATE with each other!! And just how their relationship developed, it was how a real, healthy, functional relationship should look.

I really enjoyed The Break-Up Pact. It had all of my favorite romance tropes: childhood friends-to-lovers, second-chance, & fake relationship. I felt like June and Levi's relationship was very genuine - and I understood the complicated feelings June had over Levi. I wished they spent a bit more time discussing what happened to cause their 10-year break, instead of June narrating it to us. But I like how their relationship went through up and downs throughout this book, even though it was clear they wanted to be together, but it wasn't quite so simple and there was a lot of work they both had to do to get to the right place.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Sana. Her one-liners had me cackling throughout the entire book.

Didn’t hate, didn’t love. I honestly wasn’t feeling the romantic connection between the characters and at times the plot felt all over the place. Personally I can’t stand the miscommunication trope and I wouldn’t haven picked this up had I known, especially a miscommunication from something 10 years ago. I’m all for a good fake dating book, but for the mmc to be faking dating to win back his ex that cheated just felt icky. Overall the book felt overdone in tropes and too fake for my preference.

3 ⭐️ This was a cute book, very light hearted tones that doesn’t get as deep as I wanted it to given some of the topics and backstories. It is about two high school (ex) friends who were both publicly dumped and turned into internet memes who reconnect after 10 years apart and make a plan to revenge date (fake date). I really liked the setting of the cozy beach town and tea shop. The story was what you’d expect from a fake dating, ex-best friends trope. I don’t really know why I didn’t connect with this book as much as I hoped. I think because it’s not filled with swoony banter and didn’t knock me over with all the feels, it was just as I said, a cute story… that’s it. If you need a palate cleanser between heavy books, this is probably one I’d pick up for that. The audio narration was okay, I'd probably recommend either reading or listening and you'd get the same feelings.
Thank you to MacMillan Audio for the advanced listeners copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was delightful and so much deeper, more serious, well-written, and thoughtful than the book cover and pull quotes indicate.
