I went into this expecting a RomCom, but got a RomDram instead (imo).
Normally I wouldn’t include a spoiler (?), but I feel like the book summary does the reader a disservice by omitting the third main character in this story - the FMC’s dead sister 😭 So anyone going into this should be made aware there is heavy discussion of grief in this book. And for me, that’s tough when I’m looking for a fun and light summer read.
I love the fake dating x friends-to-lovers x fun bakery x writer vibes. But it seemed to me it was always overshadowed by the grief that both characters share which resulted in my expectations not aligning with the experience of the book.
I loved that the main characters had a chance to bond over planning the FMC’s gay brother (and her bff). I think it would have served the story better if there was more distance between the sister’s passing or if there was less of a focus on it. Maybe the right balance could have worked out for a lighter book - especially for those looking for a romcom.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the eARC.

A bit longer than needed but I did like the social media of it all, but there was a lot more potential to do even more with that angle.

I love Emma Lord, but this was so boring that I could not continue. The characters were so dull, I could not believe people on social media actually cared about them.

3.75 ⭐️ this was a cute friends to don’t know each other anymore to fake dating to lovers romance. a quick read that i found enjoyable with childhood friends levi and june. i do think the fact that they went ten (10!!!!!) years without talking is kind of crazy because like what do you mean??? but i am happy they found their way back to each other. i hate the exes and also struggled with levi’s inability to move on for the majority of the book, especially when he just kinda left june after such a big moment halfway through. however, overall i enjoyed the small-town vibe and the family aspects. cute and easy!

I wasn’t a fan of the contrived plot scenario and I thought the book could be about 20-50 pages lighter. That being said, I think this book does a good job of conveying what it’s like to have a strong personality in your life essentially driving a majority of your decisions and then still loving them. I really wish this book had focused more on the main characters relationship with Annie rather than read through the fake relationship trope.

This was fine. Narration was good. I’ve liked the author’s YA novels better.
