A long awaited re-read. Still heaps of fun, still whip-crack sharp, still pulling me into its world as fast as it did before. Engrossing, hilarious – at times rather brutal, but the characters and their adventures, their setbacks and triumphs, kept me hooked. Going to try and keep this as spoiler-free as I can, because going into this book and letting the plot unfold without knowing what's going to happen next is a great benefit (although, as I say, it's a re-read for me, and I still loved the twists as much as the first time; I'd even forgotten some parts, which was even more fun!).

The heists, trickery, and the moments where the rug was pulled out from beneath you; just great. You're right there with Locke and the rest of the Gentlemen Bastards. Their relationships with each other are tight and believable, especially Locke and Jean (the latter of whom remains one of my favourite characters). It's thrilling to see them working together and teasing each other, and emotional when you know how much they understand and care about one another.

Scott Lynch has built such a powerful setting that you feel you know this city as thoroughly as his characters do; it feels lived in, in such a way that if you could divert from the main storyline and explore down a side-street in the city, you can imagine what you would find. His descriptions of fashion, food, culture, and society are precise and lively. You can see the inspirations from Renaissance Italy (most specifically Venice) but Camorr still has its own authentic feeling.

I needed a book to bring me back to my usual reading pace (or at least make me feel confident enough to try) and I knew this would be the one. The idea of re-reading the next two books is now a liiiiittle bit too tempting...

A really enjoyable read. The camaraderie of the Gentlemen Bastards is so touching toward the end and the world that the author built so casually yet so deeply remains a fascination long after the story ends.

What an absolute fantastic book. Like I’m mad at myself for taking so long to read it. The world building was amazing, the characters were so fleshed out and I loved every single person, I sobbed openly a few times, I laughed out loud more times than I can count, and every piece that was set up paid off so well. I’m getting the next one tomorrow. I’d get it tonight if I could.

Easily the greatest book I've ever read.

One hundred years of health for you and your children, dear fellow readers, and the blessings of the Lord of the Overlooked

This took me by absolute surprise! I finished this so much quicker than I thought I would! I just could not put the book down! I have a hard time expressing just how much I loved this book!

First I want to just say that this was a very smooth read. It does have fantasy elements, but they are much lighter. As such, I feel jumping into this book was really refreshing as I didn’t ever feel lost or confused as to what was going on. I was immediately hooked and stayed hooked throughout the book.

I just loved this story. I very much love stories with high stakes and a team getting together to pull off something that looks and feels to be impossible. This really was such a satisfying telling of this trope. It was so intense and I just had to keep going to know what was going to happen!

The characters in this are so charismatic and so likable. There weren’t any characters that bothered me, or that I dreaded having the focus switch to them. I enjoyed every single POV, every single focus character.

The foreshadowing in this book was done so well. Especially at the end, there is one particular part that as I was reading it, saw exactly how it was foreshadowed earlier in the book and I got the biggest smile!

I really don’t have any criticisms for this book. I would highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoy a good heist story.

Apparently reading some reviews The Lies of Locke Lamora is slow, I don't agree with that, I think its masterful and the build up means you know the characters more and I think that hits you harder when some bad things happen to them.

Of course reading this book creates problems its another series that fans are waiting on, Im fortunate that Ive got two more books to read before I think I join the queue of people shouting "We Want more" I dont think the next two books are gonna change that. Because seemingly the next novel moves on to another location it could be read as a standalone but I dont think many people will stop there.
