This was both a 5- and a 2- star read for me. TNC has stated repeatedly his aim is to call attention to the grave injustices in the apartheid state of the West Bank and I think this is effective insofar as it accomplishes that singular goal beautifully and compellingly. But he’s also clear that he doesn’t care about complexity if it muddies his sense of justice, and for me the net effect was that by the end of the book the lies of omission were too glaring to ignore. He could’ve proven his point overwhelmingly while still maintaining a more honest account and I’m left frustrated that he didn’t do just that instead of resorting to this inverse hasbara.

A sort of meditation on injustices seen in Dakar, South Carolina, and finally Palestine and the commonality of oppression in each unique circumstance.
