Shouldn't have read this one again, I remember loving it then, not so much now
Contrived, sloppy, terrible dialogue and character development. Bad pacing. I finished it purely because it was an audiobook.
There are so many granular interactions between the jurors that are pointless, stilted, or literally just infodumps that feel very weird coming from the specific character. Bad commercial fiction to an absolute tee, in my opinion.
I DID like that it was about the cigarettes but I think the movie being about gun deaths hits far better. Everyone knows these things about smoking; but maybe it was more relevant in the 90s?
Which means on all fronts the movie is superior. Though, credit where it’s due, the movie is obviously a different genre entirely, leaning toward an outright thriller.

Growing up, I had seen the movie adaptation more times than I can count. I found the book much better- who doesn't. I was surprised to learn that the book is about a trial against big tobacco rather than gun manufactures, like in the movie. I found myself for the most part, very interested. But the book does begin to drag on. I also had some difficulty keeping track of ALL the jurors. The ending was pretty farfetched. But I'm able to suspend my beliefs in reality for this story. Overall, a pretty enjoyable read.

I fear that no other John Grisham novel I read will ever be as good as "A Time to Kill."

The writing was pretty good, and certainly held my attention - now I understand why people read a lot of this author's work. However, I didn't really like any of the characters. I wanted to like the ones the book seemed to be asking me to like, but even though I sympathized with their cause, I couldn't get behind the fact that they were tampering with justice as much as the big bad tobacco companies were.
