This is more mystery than the horror I usually read/ listen to, but I enjoyed this way more than I expected. The first line of the book hooked me. It was something similar to 'I kill kids for money'. And the first scene is dude being hired by a lawyer to kill lawyer's daughter..But there's a twist. He doesn't kill the kids.
The cast of this book reminds me more of a cozy, which I do like a cozy from time to time. The characters are likeable. The story unraveled into more of a mystery than expected. And the voice! OMG! I absolutely loved the voice of this book. He was humorous, yet edgy, yet relaxing at the same time. That's an accomplishment

Dirty Deeds by Armand Rosamilia came to my attention through the Kindle Scout program. I voted for the book to be published by Amazon. It was chosen and so I got a free advance copy. There are two problems with Dirty Deeds. First it has such an abrupt cliffhanger I almost broke my neck. Second and more importantly, I do not have the sequel and I need to know what happens now. This minute! Mr. Rosamilia I hope you have the sequel ready to publish soon because Dirty Deeds was incredible.

The main character, whose real name is still unknown, is great. He is totally believable. He is flawed both physically and emotionally. The more I got to know about him as the book progressed, the more invested in his fate I became. Great job from the opening line of hooking the reader. Why would you care about a character who tells you in the first paragraph he kills children for money? Trust me, you will care about him. And you will root for him.

The action was a good combination of suspense shot through with frenzied action and relieved by wonderful humor.. The side characters were well developed also. I will be on the look out for the sequel. I rate Dirty Deeds a shiny five stars.

Let me just say what a lot of others have said - I could have done without the cliffhanger ending. Given that, I'd be leaning towards 3.5 stars but I'm marking it down to 3.

The "hero" is a die-hard baseball fan (Atlanta Braves, no less) who gets paid to kill children. Only he doesn't kill them - he relocates them and saves them from the horrible parents that want them dead. Inevitably, something goes wrong and one of them is "found" - and chaos ensues. I enjoyed the characters more than the story, but both were pretty good.

If the sequel is cheap I'll probably read it to find out what happens, but I wouldn't say I'm loving the idea.

How do I tackle this review? First, I love Armand Rosamilia's writing when he's in horror mode. Second, I enjoy Rosamilia, when he expands his horizons into other genres but I'm rarely as satisfied with the results. Dirty Deads was the least disappointed I've been into the author's divergence into another genre. In this case, crime fiction.

I've tried to read crime and noir several times. It's just not for me. That being said, Dirty Deads is very acessable to the reading public at large. The plot is twisty without being confusing. The characters are deep and interesting and the "crime" itself is very unique. Rosamilia's "seat-of-your-pants" writing style makes this story stand out in a sea of over-plotted and deey outlined crime fic pieces.
Still, the genre doesn't do a lot for me. The story was good enough to pull me the whole way through but my heart still less with the writer's horror, paranormal and zombie work.
To each their own. I'd wager if you like crime fiction and its ilk, you'll enjoy this story much more than I did. And I did enjoy the story.

This story captured my attention from the first line. It's a quick read, humorous, and well-written. James is a likable character, one who's a bit on the wrong side of the law, although his ultimate goal is to save children. It had some twists and left you wondering if he really should be trying to save all these children. It didn't always turn out for the best for him. Be warned, the story leaves you with a cliff-hanger.
