I had no knowledge of the Gwangju Uprising prior to reading this book. Structurally, it was a bit confusing for me because it follows several accounts that took place during, and several years after the Uprising. Beautiful take on souls and what happens after death. *Trigger Warning*: does go into detail about mutilated corpses and rape so it can be brutal at times.
