typically, so long as it's not wwii fiction set in europe, i'm really into historical fiction. i thought the premise for this was super interesting and i do think that overall the story was compelling and held my attention. the writing was excellent and there's a lot of heart, but there was something missing for me—i'm not sure if it's because i wanted to either see more character work or because i don't actually do too well with domestic suspense/thriller books. i'll probably reread it in print (i read this on audio, which was good) at a later date to solidify my feelings, but overall very good, just a minor mismatch between reader and book, i think.
