The main character is so naive that I thought she was around 21. I was shocked she's nearly 30.

Slow, but nonetheless an interesting and enjoyable read. I liked Lydia and Jason and enjoyed the plot but it could have done with a bit more oomph! It's more a 3.5 stars but I will read book 2.

If you like cosy crime than this is a light easy read to turn your brain off to, not well written but enjoyable.
However, one element did drive me crazy.
There seems to be loads of editing mistakes. I don’t know if it’s the author’s mistake or the editor’s one, but in the version I was listening to it described the Crow family as living in/ruling North London and their base is Camberwell (which is south London) and that Maida Vale was south of the river when it’s absolutely not. Was it self-published maybe?
Not much actual magic was featured in it if you are looking for urban fantasy, more just background character information mentioned the magic and a ghost character.
An interesting first series book. Lydia Crow moved to London & ends up working for her uncle to find her missing cousin. The characters are sharp and the setting evocative. The interface between the magical Crow family & the rest of London is hard to interpret - a secret in plain sight? This part of the book was a little off for me.

5/10 interesting concept! Lydia is almost TSTL, tho. I will keep reading and see if she gets better.
Interesting concept, but it felt disjointed and not fully formed. I may read the second book to see if the author finds her stride.
