Solid! Short and felt a little rushed along in several spots, but I suppose I’d rather have that then the inverse.
I was stuck between the Witcher series, which I enjoyed so far (20% ish in the short story collection) but can't seen to get gripped to, a scifi with prose so pretty it feels like it just slips off your mind and slithers away, and another scifi that's funny as hell with long run-on sentences with almost no breaks that feels like reading in a diving contest I am destined to lose, despite it being one of my favourite authors.
Naturally, I decided to pick up an additional book that I assumed would be easy to get into, easy to read and really easy to finish. Which it was, it did. Ticked all the boxes.
I did not expect to like this as much as I did given it was a fairly easy read with a simplistic enough plot, and less than 300 pages to hash it all out in a reasonable and entertaining manner. But like it I did.
I'm trying to resist getting into book two at the moment given that, as mentioned above, I have quite a few books in progress and frankly, at my age, if I don't pick up again within the next month or so I might as well start all over.
But it's proving a bit difficult, which is, naturally, why I am here writing a review instead of digging into one of the other aforementioned tomes.
Trying to tell myself why it's a bad idea to rush a series (it'll be over too soon!) (you'll develop fatigue!) (longer wait for next instalment!) (story hangovers are a thing! you are still reeling from your last blitz through and wondering how the stories will continue...)
But, there are like, 6 instalments as of yet, surely another entry or two wouldn't do much damage?
Decisions, decisions.

An accidental gem
I got this as part of a Book Bub promotion. To say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. It's a smart supernatural mystery aimed at adults. No brooding heroes, teenage girls who are too afraid of thier powers and overly opulent mansion. It's realistic, complex and surprisingly upbeat

I liked this enough to read the next one, but the romance didn't do anything for me. There's also some brief but horrible fatphobia and a point where the main character (a millennial!) refers to a 19 year old's drama as "millennial bullshit", which is an instant credibility crash for me.
