Urban fantasy meets crime thriller, Lydia Crow's magical family are the most powerful of London crime families and she has to deal with being an outsider.
Not bad as these things go, there aren't hidden cryptid societies or hierarchies of vampires, werewolves and the kitchen sink all hidden away. Families with magical talents have made a niche for themselves as crooks, as well they might, and locals tell scary stories about the scary people.

Flat characters and world building, together with a boring plot. Thanks, but no thanks.
A really solid start to the series. It introduces us to the magic, but doesn't explain a lot. We do learn a lot about Lydia, the main character. Strong, flawed, brave and real, Likable, relatable. I'm looking forward to reading the next ones to find out more.
Good read
This is a good read for anyone who enjoys the Rivers of London series. I am interested to see where this goes.

The Night Raven was a decent first novel in the Crow Investigation series. The first few chapters grabbed my attention and I liked the world the author had created. Although I enjoyed following Lydia’s investigation and the confrontation with the villain, the resolution of the mystery itself did not do much for me (more questions were raised than answered maybe).
Ok.
The prose is simplistic, and the protagonist at times reads like a teenager rather than a woman in her late 20s.
There are various bigger picture aspects which start to be revealed, but none of them went into much depth, so I didn't feel satisfied when the story of the book resolved.

i trieddddd but it was so boring. it's in a modern setting which I did not expect but i would have been ok with it if it was somewhat interesting. instead of meeting more ppl from those four powerful families and having cool politics we're talking to this cop that the protagonist is attracted to because???? side note why do cops in these kind of stories always have weird names. this one did
