This series has been on my list for a while and the first book is helping me read through my owned e-books. This was good! Young lady moves back to her hometown after being threatened by a cheating husband from a PI case. She is only staying for a couple weeks because her uncle is giving her a temporary place to stay. Incidentally, he is the head of one of four organized crime families, and her own father would have been the head except he resigned to keep her out of the family business.
She's almost murdered and finds out her uncle is using her to open a cafe under the flat she's staying in, and she has to investigate her cousin's disappearance. She befriends a ghost and a detective on
the police force, and is settling in more than she wanted. This is clearly the start of a series and introduces a lot of characters, history, and magical setting. Everything left me wanting to know more, even the basic PI elements.

Not a bad little mystery. Easy reading, not heavy. A little magic, but not an overwhelming amount. I don't know if I'll continue with the series.

The premise of the book sounded compelling but the book was disappointing and slow.
It did not dive into the competing families or why her cousin disappeared which I found disappointing as it was a reason for choosing this book. The story is slow with the investigation starting about half way in. Towards the end you get a sense of the powers but very vaguely written.
