I remember not loving the first book but liking the rest of the series. However, this book is so bad I can't even finish rereading it. The H is so cringy, and the plot is so boring.
Previously rated 4 stars
Plot:
- h can hear whispers of everything said in a spot
- she stumbles upon H and his friends who are half demon (released from Pandora's box)
- H can't stay away but she is probably bait
- she's a virgin so she can't be right?

More of a 4.5 than a 4.
Quite an interesting book.It will definitely make you continue with the series.

I reread this one and couldn’t get behind either of the main characters or their insta-love relationship. Maddox constantly makes empty death threats at the other Lords to essentially not look at Ashlyn - this is their primary dialogue and connection. In fact he makes threats and demands and has random violent urges which the author romanticizes as devotion, based in love or neutral because they’re his nature. Ashlyn is emotionally immature and her lame actions and thoughts kept me from rooting for her.
I really enjoyed this book immensly. Gena Showalter's world is nothing like what I read in the past. This series is similar to J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series in some of the basic premises but different enough in her setting, characters, and story premise to be immensly interesting to someone who has read J.R. Ward. I loved Maddox and Ashlyn, and couldn't wait to see how their story ended. Gena Showalter's men are tortured souls whose fight for survival endears them to the reader. A great start to a new series and I can't wait to read more.

Interesting premise. Poorly executed.
Some of the worst dialog I've ever read. The entire book was written as if the author was challenged to include as little character development as possible.
I read this book at the reccomendation of a friend and will not be taking any more book reccomendations from them after reading this book.

Recommended at the bookshop. Writing is awful. Dialogue. Narrative sentences. Plot. It all makes me groan. I know there is good stuff out there. Why can't we clone Nalini Singh?
Why did I read this? Why did I KEEP reading this? This is something that should lurk in the depths of the internet, not be an actual published book, where many people have read it, where many people have LIKED it!!! The plot was just so ridiculous, and weird. It was contradictory and annoying, and filled with insta-love, and weird characters and weird things were happening. Just, no.
Romance was dreadful. The plot was worse. Still gonna read some of the others though.
The MC was so stupid, her only purpose was the love interest. She was genuinely useless. Her power seemed kinda cool BUT WHAT DID SHE DO? Nothing. I'm getting angrier the more I type so I'm going to stop before this becomes ten thousand words.
Here are the two most memorable (horrible) quotes.
“Her pulse should not have fluttered just then, and her breasts should not have ached. But it did. They did.”
GIRL ARE YOUR BREASTS OKAY?? Boobs don't 'ache' because they find some random man attractive. this is like two pages in. This is some male author type shit - from a female author.
And worse:
“You were made for sex, weren’t you?” he purred into her ear.
I woulda stabbed him. GET OUT.

I really enjoyed the first book in the trilogy. I'm excited to start on Lucien's story next.
