Wow, I managed to finish it after all, not sure how I did it. I wasn't too fond of neither main characters, most of the time she was crying for him and rest of the time he was yelling for her...and for someone who just met like a day ago, they sure "love" each other rather bit too much. I found myself confused, and bored most of the time...blah blah blah...
Have to give her this - this is really creative. We all know I love paranormal books, but this one is a series all it's own. It doesn't seem to follow the same set pattern of other urban fantasy novels. For instance, it's not featuring vampires! Ha. This really is a creatively thought out series (which might be premature to say after reading just one book, but I'm going there!).
I loved the characters. Maddox and Ash are pretty impressive. I think I can pretty confidently say that if I had either of their problems I would probably be stark, raving mad. But I guess that goes to show how strong they are - that they can endure it and flourish. The rest of the supporting characters were at turns amusing and infuriating, I can hardly wait to read more about them as the series goes on!
The plot was pretty intense. It was quickly paced and well explained - which is always nice when a story goes by fast. I loved all the action, and the ultimate resolution at the end. Perhaps we're seeing a future book in the mix there? Who knows.

As a big fan of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series (and frankly her books in general), this has to be my favorite thus far. A strong feminine lead with an unusual and understandingly debilitating gift is coupled with a warrior who truly cares about her. This kind of chemistry (not only the physical kind, most romance novels have that in spades) is difficult to find in most paranormal romances. Complications (of course) ensue.
A Must-Read in my opinion, this is a fabulous start to a great paranormal series.

Love it when the hero finds his Achilles heel that is also his salvation!
I read this book about 12 years ago and rated it 3 stars. Now, for some reason, I wanted to read it again after all these years and decided to rate it 4 stars.
I liked Maddox, he was surly, moody, and violent. But had a conscience and did everything to make sure his lady was safe and healthy. Ashley was lied to her whole life and used, but she knows the difference between being used and being loved and she showed it at the end when she needed to pick aside. I loved the interaction between the warriors, the only thing that bothers me was that the warriors didn't know many things about the modern world, but they interacted like a bunch of frat boys. Besides that, loved it.

I don't even know why I bothered to read this book. I guess if was all the 5 star reviews. I thought well it looks like all the rest of the books in the same genre but look at the ratings, it should be good then.
Wrong! It was exactly like the rest. It was superficial and boring.
There were way too many characters in it to be useful or interesting and big surprise they are all SEXY and GORGEOUS, blah blah blah.
The plot could have been more interesting if the author had put a little more time on it and less time on describing how hot everyone was. Honestly!
I'm actually more disappointed in myself for falling for a book like this again and wasting time on it than anything else.
I was looking for something dark and delicious but got a marshmallow romance instead. Again I only have myself to blame.

Great start for the Lords of the Underworld series. Maddox is definitely my favourite lead of the series. The story is quite fast-paced and can be totally devoured in one sitting. I reccomend this book to people who crave a quick but well-written read and enjoy modern paranormal with grumpy-posessive male leads.
