This book was fine. I can't put my finger on it, but I didn't care for Maddox or Ashlyn, so that made the book a little irritating.
I did like some of the other characters, so I'll probably read a couple more books in the series.
And the actual story is pretty interesting and new for me, so I'm curious to see what happens in later books.

17years old me will definitely love it but I’m 30.
And I’m tired of possessive insta love.

I don't care what no one says. I love Black Dagger Brotherhood. I love Immortals After Dark. And I now love this.
I didn't think I would, as I'm not much into the demon thing besides White Hot Kiss, I've stayed away from them. Maybe I do like them but can't get past it before I pick the book! Don't know. Anyway. This story was awesome! It's all about making the ultimate sacrifice for the one you love.
While many people disliked these, from the reviews I've seen, I loved it. I loved the pandora a box idea, that they must eventually become one with their inner demon or it will control them. I liked that the demons are things like promiscuity, disease and violence. It gives each man something he hates about himself that he must eventually accept. Violence reminds me of Rhage in BDB, whom I loved because he genuinely doesn't which to hurt anyone with his demon, and is cursed to hell every night of his life. While I say it reminds me of BDB, it's not the same story by a long shot. Sure, there are similarities, but not enough to not want to read it due to already seeing something like it.
Like BDB there is a faction of people trying to destroy them that can fight blah blah blah, but it's different. So just deal with it.

JUST KEEP READING. The Darkest Night isn't the best book in the series. Keep reading, you'll get hooked. I am a loyal BDB reader and wasn't sure about this series in the beginning and even after finishing The Darkest Night. But hang in there ladies these men are HOT and I love the different personalities of the women they love. Let's be honest now, this isn't great (snobby)literature but that's not why we ready PNR now is it? These books are fast paced, sexy and full of wicked humor. I am hooked!
Second half was definitely better than the first so I'm glad I stuck with it. It wasn't boring per se .....You could just tell there was a deeper story coming (or at leat hoping). I also expected it to be a bit darker. Still I found it enjoyable and I'm on to the next one.
So I fell behind in this series, but I remembered loving it. So my plan was to re-read and finally get caught back up. I was a little disappointed in this initial book on the re-read though. Not that I didn't like it, I did. I just didn't pull me as much as I remember it doing. I think in large part because too much of the book was this fingers in the ears, lalalalalala, I don't want to hear anything you're saying reaction from Maddox. He never really spoke to Ashlyn to find out anything about her and it would have moved their relationship forward as well as the greater story quicker if they had just actually spoken to each other.
Once the outside elements with the Hunters started showing up and it wasn't just silly arguing between Ashlyn and Maddox I was reminded of all the elements I liked about the series as a whole. I know I'll enjoy later books more as this feels like a setup book in the reread.

this story was ok, unfortunately I'm not sure if is enough to entice me to read the rest of the series.
The story is ... not bad. The characters are mostly interesting. But I feel like the entire story could have been told in the first chapter. Call me crazy, I don't like love at first sight stories - they leave nothing to be resolved. I guess that's why Romeo and Juliet isn't one of my favorite Shakespeares.
And the sex is really, really bad. It made me feel like the only experience the author has had is with romance novels. Or else she thinks that's what her audience wants. Who knows, maybe I'm the only one.
