Evocative & atmospheric, with a surprising amount of dry info-dumping. Still a damn fine read, & the story that launched a thousand imitators, given its the original story of The Thing. What Bram Stoker did for vampires, Campbell did for claustrophobic, icy horror stories.

I found this one very hard to follow, and just not that exciting or interesting to read. I know the movie " The Thing" was based on this novella, and while I never saw the movie, I was expecting the book to be much more captivating if the story was good enough to make a movie about it. That just wasn't the case for me.

I can see why Campbell made the changes he did in "Who Goes There." That final version flows better and is overall more effective as a story. However, I still really enjoyed this version, and I'm glad it was rediscovered after being hidden away for decades.

Just watch the Carpenter film.

I liked this book. It does make me want to watch the movies now.

The only complaint I have is that at times, it was very hard for me to keep track of what was going on. Other than that, not bad.
